This is Falfurrias, Texas
Falfurrias is the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres.
The city is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 285 and is approximately 81 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90 miles southeast of Laredo, and 36 miles south of Alice. Population was 6,200 as of 2010.

TO THE PUBLIC – GREETINGS
Notice is hereby given that a Regular Meeting, of the City Council, of the City of Falfurrias will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the 2nd of October, 2013, in the Conference Room at the Police Department in the City of Falfurrias, in Brooks County.
If during the course of this Council Meeting, the City Council should determine that a closed meeting or executive session of the Council is required, such closed meeting or executive session will be conducted during or soon after the commencement of the meeting covered by this notice. This closed meeting or executive session will follow the guidelines and subject matter as set forth under Chapter 551 of Texas Government Code and an amendments thereto.
At such Regular Meeting, the following subjects will be considered by the City Council of the City of Falfurrias, Texas
- CALL TO ORDER
- ROLL CALL
- CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the opportunity for visitors and guests to address the City Council on any issue. City Council may not discuss any presented issue, nor may any action be taken on any issue at this time. (Attorney General Opinion – JC 0169)
- Approval of monthly bills.
- Review and possible action on September 18, 2013 regular meeting minutes.
- Review and possible action on September 23, 2013 budget workshop minutes.
NEW BUSINESS
- Discussion and possible action on a Proclamation proclaiming the Month of October 2013 as Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.
- Discussion and possible action to appoint a new representative for the City of Falfurrias Council of Government (COG) Representative.
- Discussion and possible action to adopt the 2014 fiscal year budget for the City of Falfurrias and to adopt an Ordinance No. 573.
- Discussion and possible action to adopt property tax rate for 2013 for the City of Falfurrias and adopt an Ordinance No. 574.
- Discussion and possible action on Brush Collection Proposal from Waste Connections of Texas (ABC Waste Collection) for City of Falfurrias.
- Discussion and possible action to approve amendment to the 2013 fiscal year budget in the special revenue fund.
- Discussion and possible action to approve amendments to the 2013 fiscal year budget in the general fund.
- Discussion and possible action on amending fee for Tax Certificate Copy for City of Falfurrias from $5 to $10 and to be reflected in the City’s Master Fee Schedule effective October 3, 2013.
- Discussion and possible action on Resolution # 417, a Resolution regarding a financing agreement for the purpose of procuring “Police Vehicles and Related Equipment” between the City of Falfurrias and Government Capital Corporation.
- Discussion and possible action on Resolution # 418, a Resolution regarding a financing agreement for the purpose of procuring “Various Personal Property” between the City of Falfurrias and Government Capital Corporation.
- Discussion and possible action on establishing Special Projects Fund for Amusement Machine Fees.
EXECUTIVE SESSION – The council may enter into closed or executive session to discuss the following:
G.C. Section 551.072 – Personnel Matters; T.G.C. Section 551.071 Consultation with City Attorney;
(a) Discussion regarding Confidential Settlement with Ms. Alexandria Alegria.
