This is Falfurrias, Texas

Falfurrias is the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres.

The city is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 285 and is approximately 81 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90 miles southeast of Laredo, and 36 miles south of Alice. Population was 6,200 as of 2010.

NOTICE is hereby given of a REGULAR MEETING, of the City Council, for the City of Falfurrias, County of Brooks, State of Texas, to be held on WEDNESDAY, November 5, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at: Falfurrias Police Department Conference Room at 205 E. Allen St. Falfurrias, Texas 78355 for the purpose of considering the following numbered items.
 
 If during the course of this Council Meeting, the City Council should determine that a Closed meeting or executive session of the Council is required, such closed meeting or Executive session will be conducted during or soon after the commencement of the meeting Covered by this notice. This closed meeting or executive session will follow the guidelines And subject matter as set forth under Title 5, Chapter 551, of Texas Government Code and an Amendments thereto.
 
  • ITEM 1.) CALL TO ORDER AND CERTIFICATION OF A QUORUM:
  • ITEM 2.) CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the opportunity for visitors and guests to address the City Council on any issue. City Council may not discuss any presented issue, nor may any action be taken on any issue at this time. (Attorney General Opinion – JC 0169).
  • ITEM 3.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: Monthly bills.
  • ITEM 4.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve August 26, 2014 budget workshop meeting minutes. 
  • ITEM 5.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve September 8, 2014 special meeting minutes.

  • ITEM 9.) PRESENTATION – Presentation of City of Falfurrias energy audit and analysis by Mr. John Philips of Enviro-Light Solutions LLC. 
  • ITEM 10.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: RESOLUTION – A RESOLUTION REQUESTING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE TEXAS WATER DEVELOPMENT BOARD; AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION FOR ASSISTANCE; AND MAKING CERTAIN FINDINGS IN CONNECTION THEREWITH. 
  • ITEM 11.) BRIEFING, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION CONCERNING: To discuss development of Ordinance to establish City of Falfurrias Chapter 380 incentive policy for commercial, retail, and industrial development in the City of Falfurrias and the extra-territorial jurisdiction.  
  • ITEM 12.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and vote on September financials for General, Utility, and Special Revenue funds.
  • ITEM 13.) BRIEFING, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION CONCERNING: To discuss Congressman’s Hinojosa’s workshop by the Border Environment Cooperation Commission (BECC) on establishing Tri-County Coalition for possible regional projects between Brooks County, Jim Hogg County, and Duval County to include all cities and special districts within the Tri-County area.  
  • ITEM 14.) BRIEFING, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION CONCERNING: To discuss responses submitted by City Council on Comprehensive Compensation and Classification Study recommendations and Job Descriptions.  
  • ITEM 15.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on accepting resignation of Kevin Martinez, and Robert Gonzalez. 
  • ITEM 16.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $5,050 offer by Guillermo Mendez to purchase tax sale property on Lot 15, Block ‘16’, Miller Brothers Addition, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘75’ Page 419, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Jesse A. Grimes, et al. by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX. 
  • ITEM 17.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $7,800 offer by Maria A. Lopez to purchase tax sale property on Lot 5, 6, & 7, Block ‘12’, Falfurrias Addition No.1, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘225’ Page 491, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Rosa Maria Longoria, et al. by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX. 
  • ITEM 18.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $3,600 offer by Betania Mendez to purchase tax sale property on Lot 14, Block 32, Original Townsite Addition, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘21’ Page 313, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Edward Cox, et al. by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX. 
  • ITEM 19.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $1,000 offer by Edward Cortez and Esmeralda Cortez to purchase tax sale property on Lot 10 Block ‘B’, Rachal’s Addition, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘5’ Page 242, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Juliana Maldonado, et al. by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX.
