This is Falfurrias, Texas

Falfurrias is the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres.

The city is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 285 and is approximately 81 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90 miles southeast of Laredo, and 36 miles south of Alice. Population was 6,200 as of 2010.

NOTICE is hereby given of a REGULAR MEETING, of the City Council, for the City of Falfurrias, County of Brooks, State of Texas, to be held on WEDNESDAY, April 16 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at: Falfurrias Police Department Conference Room at 205 E. Allen St. Falfurrias, Texas 78355 for the purpose of considering the following numbered items.
 
If during the course of this Council Meeting, the City Council should determine that a closed meeting or executive session of the Council is required, such closed meeting or executive session will be conducted during or soon after the commencement of the meeting covered by this notice. This closed meeting or executive session will follow the guidelines and subject matter as set forth under Title 5, Chapter 551, of Texas Government Code and an amendments thereto.
 
  • ITEM 1.) CALL TO ORDER AND CERTIFICATION OF A QUORUM:
  • ITEM 2.) CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the opportunity for visitors and guests to address the City Council on any issue. City Council may not discuss any presented issue, nor may any action be taken on any issue at this time. (Attorney General Opinion – JC 0169)

  • ITEM 7.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and vote on Ordinance No. XXX – AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING PERMIT FEES, TO INCLUDE MOBILE VENDORS, FOR THE CITY OF FALFURRIAS AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 500.
  • ITEM 8.) CONISDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and vote on Ordinance No. XXX – AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A 4B FALFURRIAS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION AND APPROVING ARTICLES OF FORMATION FOR CITY OF FALFURRIAS. 
  • ITEM 9.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and vote on Ordinance No. XXX – AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE CITY OF FALFURRIAS TO ESTABLISH UTILITY ENTERPRISE ACCOUNTS AT THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK IN FALFURRIAS TO INCLUDE UITLITY, OPERATING RESERVE, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT, CAPITAL RESERVE, AND DEBT SERVICE FUNDS FOR THE CITY OF FALFURRIAS. 
  • ITEM 10.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and vote on February financials for General, and Special Revenue funds.
  • ITEM 11.) BRIEFING, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION CONCERNING: To discuss hosting a 4th of July golf tournament for 3rd Annual 4th of July Celebration. 
  • ITEM 12.) BRIEFING, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION CONCERNING: To create and post finance position for City of Falfurrias. 
  • ITEM 13.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $3,600 offer by Jose V. Rivera to purchase tax sale property on Lot 15, Block 1, Villarreal Addition, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘105’ Page 185, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Belia W. Cruz by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX. 
  • ITEM 14.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $3,900 offer by Arnold Mireles to purchase tax sale property on Lot 13 and 14, Block 1, Maupin’s Second Addition, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Plat Cabinet A, Envelope 36, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Serapio Guerra and Sara L. De Guerra by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX. 
  • ITEM 15.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $800 offer by Arnold Mireles to purchase tax sale property on Lot 25, Monroe and Adams Subdivision of Acreage lot 98, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘10’ Page 313, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Nieves Calderon by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX. 
  • ITEM 16.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $400 offer by Rodney Del Bosque to purchase tax sale property on Lot 50 and 51, Block 14, La Colonia Addition, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘41’ Page 324, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Felipe Garcia by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX. 
  • ITEM 17.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve a $1,600 offer by Arnold Mireles to purchase tax sale property on Lot 11, Block 2, Juan B. Ramirez Subdivision, an addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume ‘99’ Page 393, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Juan Daniel Reyna by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a Resolution No.XXX.
