This is Falfurrias, Texas
Falfurrias is the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres.
The city is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 285 and is approximately 81 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90 miles southeast of Laredo, and 36 miles south of Alice. Population was 6,200 as of 2010.

NOTICE is hereby given of a REGULAR MEETING, of the City Council, for the City of Falfurrias, County of Brooks, State of Texas, to be held on WEDNESDAY, June 4, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at: Falfurrias Police Department Conference Room at 205 E. Allen St. Falfurrias, Texas 78355 for the purpose of considering the following numbered items.
If during the course of this Council Meeting, the City Council should determine that a Closed meeting or executive session of the Council is required, such closed meeting or executive session will be conducted during or soon after the commencement of the meeting covered by this notice. This closed meeting or executive session will follow the guidelines and subject matter as set forth under Title 5, Chapter 551, of Texas Government Code and an amendments thereto.
- ITEM 1.) CALL TO ORDER AND CERTIFICATION OF A QUORUM:
- ITEM 2.) CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the opportunity for visitors and guests to address the City Council on any issue. City Council may not discuss any presented issue, nor may any action be taken on any issue at this time. (Attorney General Opinion – JC 0169).
- ITEM 3.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: Monthly bills.
NEW BUSINESS
- ITEM 4.) PRESENTATION: Presentation by Nelda Garza with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) on City of Falfurrias’ selection as host site for Texas Rural Internship Program and presentation of intern Rudis Requeño.
- ITEM 5.) CONISDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and vote on appointing two (2) board members for the City of Falfurrias 4B Falfurrias Economic Development Corporation (EDC) for submittal of articles of formation.
- ITEM 6.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss the procedure for the City to sell City property and specifically the property adjacent to current City Hall.
- ITEM 7.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on contract with AT&T for antenna on City elevated storage tank (water tower).
- ITEM 8.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on authorizing Melden & Hunt Engineering to submit permit renewal application for City of Falfurrias sewer treatment plant.
- ITEM 9.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on approval of City-Wide sewer system condition assessment by Southern Trenchless Inc. (Recommended by City of Falfurrias Utilities Advisory Board).
- ITEM 10.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on selection of applicant for City Finance Officer.
- ITEM 11.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on setting salary amount for City Finance Officer position.
- ITEM 12.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on amendment Ordinance No. 580 to include clause allowing for either security guard and/or roving patrol option.
- ITEM 13.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and possibly vote on Ordinance for Mid-Year budget amendments to FY 2014 Utility and General Fund budgets.
- ITEM 14.) BRIEFING, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION CONCERNING: To discuss and consider amendments to Interlocal Agreements with Brooks County regarding: A.) Veteran’s Services; 2.) Emergency Management; 3.) Landfill/Brush Collection; 4.) Ad Valorem Tax Collection Services.
- ITEM 15.) BRIEFING, DISCUSSION, AND DIRECTION CONCERNING: To discuss possibly assisting Brooks County Sheriff’s Office on repair/replacement of radios for emergency management.
- ITEM 16.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To discuss and vote on advertisement and invitation of bids for City of Falfurrias 2014 Street Improvements Project.
