This is Falfurrias, Texas

Falfurrias is the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres.

The city is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 285 and is approximately 81 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90 miles southeast of Laredo, and 36 miles south of Alice. Population was 6,200 as of 2010.

NOTICE is hereby given of a REGULAR MEETING, of the City Council, for the City of Falfurrias, County of Brooks, State of Texas, to be held on WEDNESDAY, June 03, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at: Falfurrias Police Department Conference Room at 205 E. Allen St. Falfurrias, Texas 78355 for the purpose of considering the following numbered items.
 
If during the course of this Council Meeting, the City Council should determine that a Closed meeting or executive session of the Council is required, such closed meeting or Executive session will be conducted during or soon after the commencement of the meeting Covered by this notice. This closed meeting or executive session will follow the guidelines and subject matter as set forth under Title 5, Chapter 551, of Texas Government Code and any Amendments thereto.
 
  • ITEM 1.) CALL TO ORDER AND CERTIFICATION OF A QUORUM:
  • ITEM 2.) CITIZEN COMMENTS: This is the opportunity for visitors and guests to address the City Council on any issue. City Council may not discuss any presented issue, nor may any action be taken on any issue at this time. (Attorney General Opinion – JC 0169)
  • ITEM 3.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: Approval of monthly bills.
  • ITEM 4.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve April 15, 2015, special meeting minutes.
  • ITEM 5.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING: To approve May 6, 2015 regular meeting minutes.

  • ITEM 6.) PRESENTATION – Presentation by President of the Brooks County Fair Association Bobby Saenz on donation given by City of Falfurrias.
  • ITEM 7.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING – To discuss and vote on variance request for property at corner of 281 and W. Noble Street.
  • ITEM 8.)  CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING – To discuss and vote on renewal of Municipal Golf Course contract with Falfurrias Golfer’s Association
  • ITEM 9.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING – To discuss and vote on January, February and March financials for General Fund, Special Revenue Funds, Utility Fund Acct.
  • ITEM 10.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING – To discuss and vote on accepting letter of resignation from Mayor Lamar D. Martinez Sr.
  • ITEM 11.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING –. Discussion and possible action to approve a $3,000.00 offer made by Norma E. Saenz to purchase tax sale property on the Lots 2 and 3, Block 3 Miller Brothers addition to the City of Falfurrias, as described in Volume 125, Page 703, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Emanuel L. Pena, Marivel G. Rosas, Rafaela Villarreal, Edna Grubbs, Aka Edna Mae Grubbs Boswell and Elizabeth Rosas, By Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson, and to approve a resolution regarding same.  Property is located at 718 E. Bowie St., Falfurrias, Brooks County, Texas. 
  • ITEM 12.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING – Discussion and possible action to approve a $1,300.00 offer made by George Moreno to purchase tax sale property on the Lots 6,7,8, and 9, Block 19, La Colonia Addition, an addition to the Town of Falfurrias, Brooks County, Texas, according to the map or plat thereof, recorded in Cabinet ‘A’ Slide 32, Plat Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Pasqual Salinas, et al, By Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson, and to approve a resolution regarding same.  Property is located at W. Lee Street Falfurrias, Brooks County, Texas.
  • ITEM 13.) CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING – To discuss and vote on The Falfurrias Fire Department 50th Anniversary BBQ Celebration.
  • ITEM 14.) EXECUTIVE SESSION – The Council will enter into closed, executive session to discuss the following:
  • (1) Attorney consultation pursuant to Section 551.071, Texas Gov’t Code, to provide advice and counsel in connection with the City’s rights, duties, privileges, and obligations in connection with the collective bargaining negotiations between the City and the Police Union,  threats of litigations, and related legal matters.
  • ITEM 15.) ADJOURN.
