This is Falfurrias, Texas

Falfurrias is the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres.

The city is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 285 and is approximately 81 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90 miles southeast of Laredo, and 36 miles south of Alice. Population was 6,200 as of 2010.

The primary responsibility of the Communications Division is to identify, dispatch and support emergency response agencies calls for service.
The Falfurrias Police Department is dispatch through the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center. 
 
Services:
  • Handling of all Falfurrias 911 and non-emergency calls.
  • Dispatch Falfurrias Police Department, Falfurrias Volunteer Fire Department, Falfurrias Rescue Unit, and Animal Control for the City of Falfurrias.
  • Answer and transfer all medical emergency calls to Gemini EMS.
  • Coordination of emergency communications during disasters or other critical situations.
  • Activate telephone/radio warning systems during tornado warnings.
  • Handle all after hour emergencies for the City of Falfurrias.

  • Be a Certified Peace Officer by TCOLE
  • Be 21 years of age
  • Be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.
  • Have a valid Texas Driver’s license
  • Submit to a drug test and be in good physical condition
  • Be able to use computerized equipment
  • Be proficient in the English and Spanish languages
  • Be able to do shift work and also weekends and holidays

  • Starting Salary- $14.00 per hour
  • Paid vacation: 1-5 years two weeks, 6-14 years three weeks, 15 years and over four weeks

The Texas Ranger Room

Over a hundred years ago the Texas Rangers were a shield between the pioneer settlers and a hostile land. Falfurrias was a shield with Company D, Texas Rangers, stationed here as an area headquarters. The Texas Ranger Room is dedicated to the Texas Rangers and their role in the history of Brooks County which was named for a famous Ranger — Captain James Abijah Brooks.

 
The Ranger Room features original guns, uniforms, records, personal memorabilia and pictures of famous Texas Rangers.

The museum is also the home of 100 pairs of boots that were worn by Texas Rangers, including "Big Foot' Wallace.

If you have an ancestor or relative who has served in the Rangers, please send us his name and any information you may have pertaining to the time and place(s) of his service. A ranger roster is maintained here.

The Heritage Museum at Falfurrias, Texas 

 
The Heritage Museum, located right along the famous Chilsom Trail and the Texas Tropical Trail of Texas, is dedicated to the preservation of a frontier heritage in artifacts, relics, records, pictures, maps and personal papers of the early pioneer settlers whose deeds and adventures are so much a part of Texas History. The museum is governed by a Board of Directors. It is supported by donations and subsidized by the City of Falfurrias.
 
The museum is open and free to the public
Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m
Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
